Unveiled in April 2019, The Shed is an awe-inspiring event venue, boasting a 200,000-square-foot structure in the heart of Manhattan’s Hudson Yards and offering several unique entertaining spaces with stunning NYC views. Designed by architects Diller, Scofidio + Renfro with help from The Rockwell Group, the aesthetic was inspired by late architect Cedric Price.
We had the opportunity to experience The Shed’s true impact when we teamed up with Union Square Events and Raiola/Co. to promote The Tisch Skylights at a cocktail reception for 250 guests in July. To give everyone a good sense of scale in the room, a large bar was set up under the skylight along with scattered hi-tops, lounge seating areas and a series of sample dinner tables.
Endless Event Possiblities
The Tisch Skylights and Lab
Set on the top floor, The Tisch Skylights and Lab was designed for events, rehearsals and artist development, and showcases a direct glimpse into The Vessel with northern views of Hudson Yards in the background.
The naturally-lit space can accommodate seating for 450 and standing room for 750, with a design that combines a contemporary ambience with rustic-looking woodwork and natural textures. The flow of the room and the massive freight elevator support large load-ins and set-ups.
The McCourt
The McCourt combines an indoor and outdoor experience, making it ideal for large-scale events and performances. With the movable shell deployed to the adjoining plaza, the McCourt can accommodate a seated audience of 1,250 or over 2,000 standing. The deployment of the shell takes approximately five minutes and the construction of the panels can withstand hurricane-force winds.
Kenneth C. Griffin Theater
The Kenneth C. Griffin Theater occupies the 6th floor and can seat 500 people. The expansive space can be subdivided into smaller spaces to suit performances, banquets and corporate meetings of all sizes.
